Director's Notes: Setting the Stage

Hello and welcome to the very first entry in my very first blog, STAGE WHISPERS.

Back in the 18th & 19th centuries, and through most of the 20th century (until cordless microphones), stage whispers were usually "asides" or "throw-away" lines uttered in loud whispers, directed to the audience (yet presumably never overheard by other cast members), and projected so that the words reached the back wall of the theater, and were enjoyed by the whole audience.

Metaphorically, I hope "Stage Whispers — The Blog" attracts an audience of theater buffs who enjoy theater history, and will share some stories of their own... maybe even participate in a lively discussion now and again.
